Membership

Whether you are just starting out on a career in train control systems and communications or you are a seasoned industry practitioner, membership of the IRSE can open new doors, provide opportunities and help broaden your knowledge to enhance your professional status.
Around the world IRSE members benefit not only from a wealth of technical papers and publications containing industry news and views from across the globe, but also from the many opportunities to share and discuss ideas that are provided by the Institution’s conferences and local events.
Membership of the IRSE provides an excellent framework for professional development with recognition of competence and achievement, including the opportunity to take the internationally recognised IRSE Exam and to become professionally registered.

To support members at all stages of their career journey, discounted membership subscription rates are available for students and those who are fully retired.  An e-membership rate is also available for those who are happy to reduce their environmental footprint by receiving publications and information by electronic means.

Registration

Becoming professionally registered can be one of the greatest things you add to your CV!

Being registered as an Engineering Technician (EngTech), Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) provides a benchmark through which the public, employers and clients can have confidence and trust that you have met globally recognised professional standards in engineering knowledge, understanding and competence.  Registration also demonstrates your commitment to maintaining professional standards and to continuing to develop your knowledge and understanding.

The IRSE is licensed by the UK’s Engineering Council to award:

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng)
  • Incorporated Engineer (IEng)
  • Engineering Technician (EngTech)
  • Council Nominations

Nominations for election to Council for the period 2021-2022 will open between 5th October and 27th November 2020. Civica will once again be running the service on behalf of IRSE. Members will be sent an email with an on line nomination form. Forms will also be available from this site once the nomination process is open. Hard copy forms will also be available if required.
