Maryam Akbari will be the speaker expanding on Bogdan Godziejewski's theme of Engaging Generation Unlimited.

 

Maryam Akbari, Engineering Systems Designer (Alstom),will deliver the fourth lecture in President Bogdan Godziejewski's series Engaging Generation Unlimited.

 

Maryam obtained her master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Twente, Netherlands, in 2020. She graduated with distinction and her thesis focused on the application of Automatic Train Operation (ATO) at Dutch railways and was titled “Expediency of ATO in Heavy Rail: A Decision-Making Framework.”. She presented the results of her research  Overview of ETCS Level 3 impediments at the IRSE Aspect conference in Delft, Netherlands.

 

She joined Alstom in 2019 and has since worked on various European projects related to ATO and the European Train Control System (ETCS), both onboard and trackside. Maryam also contributed to Alstom’s Mainline Development Centre in Belgium, where she was involved in developing ATO trackside solutions (Grade of Automation 2).

 

Currently, Maryam works for ALSTOM in Toronto, Canada, where she joined the OnCorr project in July 2023. Last year Maryam was presenting ideas about Introduction of ETCS as an ETC Solution for Metrolinx at the IRSE Convention in Toronto.

 

Drawing on her truly international career, Maryam will share her insights into the essential skills and the role of mentorship in helping young professionals envision and shape their future in the signalling and train control sector.
