STEM

Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics

Governments around the world place great importance on education in the sciences, engineering and mathematics.  As both work and home life are increasingly affected by the latest developments in science and technology, it's important that young people are able to harness new opportunities and participate.

Super Train Challenge STEM Day

The Great Inventor Prerna invites you on her adventure around the world. Originally broadcast on 16th May 2020 as an interactive workshop, this online adventure is now available for viewing on demand below.

The event kicks off with some of our Younger Members talking a little about their careers, including the experiences they’ve had, the impact their work has and how they got into a career in the rail industry. These talks also include some fun facts about railways around the world!

Activities to try at home

  1. Plan an around the world route and build a globe

  2. Design the train

  3. Build the train

The event ends with a short quiz so make sure you listen to those fun facts at the start of the event!

This is intended to be a family friendly event and is open for all ages to participate but please keep in mind that the main activity is aimed at school children aged between 5 and 11 years old.

Tomorrow's Engineers

If you're looking for further educational tools and activities for homeschooling, The Tomorrow's Engineers hub, led by EngineeringUK, provides guidance and materials with resources drawn from across the STEM community.

You'll find a range of inspiring classroom resources and digital experiences designed by a project team from across the engineering community, with the input of both teachers and young people. These resources are available via Neon.
