Member (MIRSE)

Member (MIRSE)



The grade of Member (MIRSE) is typically available to those who are working at 'Senior Responsibility' level and have had approximately 3 years practical training/experience and either:

Hold an engineering degree AND

Have passed the Advanced Diploma in Railway Control Engineering (IRSE Professional Exam) or Can demonstrate significant technical experience at 'Senior Responsibility' level (typically 7 years)

-Alternatively-

Have approximately 7-10 years of professional development AND 

Have passed the Advanced Diploma in Railway Control Engineering (IRSE Professional Exam)  or Can demonstrate significant technical experience at 'Senior Responsibility' level (typically 7 years)

Senior Responsibility

A person in a position of ‘Senior Responsibility’ takes more significant engineering decisions affecting technical and organisational output. They will typically be making decisions at the level of a project or an area of activity. They will variously engage in technical and commercial management and possess effective inter-personal skills for dealing with customers, suppliers and colleagues. Usually, such a person will have fulfilled a ‘Responsible’ position in the railway signalling or railway telecommunications engineering field (or possibly in another engineering discipline) and will now be giving guidance to those in ‘Responsible’ positions.
